It is now a couple of weeks since I decided to do something about the baby-weight (not helped by a love of chocolate, cakes and wine) and go on a diet. Have I stuck to it? Any noticeable results?
Well, rather than go cold-turkey on the carbs, I decided to reduce my intake. I have avoided white bread, opting instead for spelt bread if at all, reduced the amount of potatoes and rice I would normally consume, replacing these with salads or other vegetables such as kale. I have also reduced the amount of sugar I use in tea and coffee and have tried to break my habit of eating chocolate while watching a bit of television/reading a book in the evening before bed. I have also replaced ordinary white flour with spelt flour in any recipes where flour is required.
And *oh WOW* do I feel less bloated! I don’t think there is any visible reduction in my waistline, but I certainly feel less of a balloon. So, I will continue on in a similar vein until the day I can face cutting out carbs entirely.
My next thing to work on: drinking more water. I know I don’t drink enough. I just cannot stand the taste of tap or still mineral water. Sparkling water is ok, but does tend to make one a little *ahem* gassy… But, I guess if I mix some still water with a little cordial (just enough to take the water non-taste away) that should help. I think I may have to invest in a pair of bathroom scales, just to be a bit more scientific about this.
Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement, handy tips and recipes. Keep them coming!
